My trip to the beach...
My relationship with Dennis & The LVSN from March 1995- April 2001 was a good one, maybe not perfect, but all in all I enjoyed myself and I made a lot of great contacts.. I was able to meet athletes, celebrities, bookmakers, casino owners, pro-bettors and a ton of Handicappers!
For several years a few Capping Companies were trying to recruit me to work for them, especially John Rodney aka "Dan The Man Wilson" who owed a tout service out of Fort Myers Florida. John was one of our advertisers on the Score Phone so I would talk to him daily and he would boast to me how much money his guys were making, and that I could double or triple what I was currently making. For over a year or so I was pondering his offer, but I never took him up on it... until my wife Jamie said she was up for change and wanted to make the move
So we did...
After selling all our furniture, and everything else that we did not want, we packed up my STS with all we could fit including my parrot Moses and took off to Florida on April 19th 2001. We did not have a lot of money saved but we had enough to get started and carry us until Football Season.
John never did a radio show before but wanted to get one started. So that was one of the reasons for the move, as he now needed my help to get it going as the host of the show. I never met John face to face, but for over 3 years we spoke often and he was a like-able guy and generous too... He sent me 1k for my wedding.
We arrived in Fort Myers on April 21st, drove to Johns house where he and his wife Linda met us. They were very nice, and let us stay in one of their homes that was on the market until they could sell it. The next day we went to the office to meet the original crew which would expand very quickly. It was the slow season for touts so things were quite as far as business goes. But, I got my feet wet and made some money cold calling. The guys were very aggressive ... more so than the crew that Jack Price had in California back in 1994.
I am not going to name the cast that worked for John but I will tell you each guy was quirky, and could sell sand on the beach, they were ruthless... and hungry...
By mid June the office was closed and we were now living in a rental as John sold the house we were staying at when we first arrived. The summer was dragging, and the heat was insane, we could not wait to get back to work. We all returned to the office the first week in August and started hitting the phones in order to get clients excited about Football and Baseball. John and I went into the studio to do a dry run for the radio show... That would begin Week 1 of the NFL Season. Our chemistry on air was amazing, it was like we did radio together for years, and the show sounded great. Both John and I new we had something special but neither one of us expected the results and the incredible amounts of money we would make in such a short amount of time....
